Tarisio to Sell Copy of Guarneri's 1743 "Il Cannone" Violin

All proceeds from the sale will go to Brazil's Instituto Baccarelli, which provides music education for impoverished children and teenagers

In conjunction with Amorim Fine Violins Cremona, online auction house Tarisio is set to hold an auction on October 24th for a violin modeled after Guarneri del Gesù's "Il Cannone" instrument made in 1743. The original violin was famously owned by Niccolò Paganini.

The copy has been made by luthier Luiz Amorim in Cremona in 2019, and a number of prominent violinists have contributed to the project by signing the violin.

They include Aleksey Igudesman, Anastasiya Petryshak, Augustin Hadelich, Boris Brovtsyn, Daniel Hope, David Carpenter, David Garret, Elly Suh, Emanuelle Baldini, Esther Abrami, Fabrizio von Arx, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Giuseppe Gibboni, Ilya Gringolts, Joshua Bell, Julia Fisher, Lauren Carpenter, Maxim Vengerov, Philippe Quint, Ray Chen, Roman Simovic, Salvatore Accardo, Schlomo Mintz, Sean Carpenter, Stefan Milenkovich, and Xiaoming Wang.

All proceeds from the auction will go to Brazil's Instituto Baccarelli, a non-government-affiliated organization that provides music education for children and teenagers from the poorest regions of the country. These young people live in underfunded communities called favelas, and many of them lack access to basic services.

"I had never had in my hands one single part of a violin," said violinist Francesca Dego, the ambassador for the project.

"I remember with emotion the lightness of the bottom of the 'Cannone Giramondo' in my hands, a thin and elegant wooden plate ready to receive my signature. Since that moment I have been followed by many colleagues, many of whom I know have been equally excited: the charity project, of enormous importance, especially in a difficult moment like this, and the awareness of bringing hope with such a special means gives me the shivers."
